Will Poulter calls Warfare 'an anti-war film'

Will Poulter considers 'Warfare' to be "an anti-war film".

The 32-year-old actor stars alongside the likes of Joseph Quinn, Kit Connor, Michael Gandolfini, and Noah Centineo in the new action film - which tells the story of a Navy SEAL mission in Iraq in 2006 - and Will has revealed that he admires the filmmakers for making 'Warfare' purely factual.

Speaking to the BBC, Will explained: "Hopefully this film contributes to a better understanding of just how negative, and how the consequences of war are characterised by a lot of loss ... I think this is as much an anti-war film as you can possibly hope to see."

The cast agreed to shave each other's heads in preparation for the movie, and Will has admitted to developing a strong bond with his co-stars.

The London-born actor - who embarked on a three-week military bootcamp as part of his preparations for the film - said: "We shaved our heads on day one, and got tattoos at the end of the process, so it bookended the experience."

Kit Connor also developed a strong connection to his co-stars.

The 21-year-old actor shared: "It was really formative for me. I've made friends I really do believe I will know for a long time.

"We all wanted to commemorate it - we are so proud of the work we've done together."

Ray Mendoza - who co-directed the new movie alongside Alex Garland - actually served as a Navy SEAL in the Iraq war.

And he's admitted to seeking something very specific from the film's cast.

The director explained: "I've said this to them, so I'm not trying to offend them, but we weren't looking for the best actors. They're all great actors. We were looking for the right actors.

"So what that means is their willingness to push their bodies past a comfort level that they're maybe not used to. 'You're gonna be exhausted. You're gonna be required to rely on other people. It's not about you, it's about the team'. And the ones that jump at that opportunity, you're like, 'Yep, that's the attitude that we need.'"

Meanwhile, Will recently admitted that he found filming 'Warfare' to be a unique career challenge.

The actor portrayed a real-life Navy SEAL in the movie and he confessed that playing a real-life person proved to be a different challenge for him.

The movie star told HeyUGuys: "The challenge was less about acting and sort of crafting a performance or ... sort of coming up with a character. It was more about representing true-life counterpart. Doing exactly what was ordered of you. Responding to protocall and recreating a real event.

"So, there's less creativity about it, in a way. So it becomes more objective and more about ... execution."
